This is my current project as part of the Scroll Lock Studios teams, where I am Co-director and Lead Programmer for the project. This also my first major project in Unreal Engine 5. A Journey of Light is a 3D, light-based puzzle game, centred around getting a beam of light starting from a spotlight, through various obstacles and gameplay options to an orb(s) that need lighting up. The focus has been on a generally chill and relaxing experience that is easy to pick up and play whenever, whilst delivering a satisfying and enjoying difficulty curve through each puzzle as the game progresses.
My primary role(s) have been technical direction as Lead Programmer, and co-director in overall game direction (mostly in planned features and team coordination). Some of my role responsibilities and contributions have included:
– Design and implemention of key gameplay elements and systems (including puzzle object functionality, interactions, level setup/loading, level tables).
– Design and implementation of game UI (gameplay and navigational UI).
– Broad implementation, management and upkeep of project structure (internal project structure, github management, design implementation at several levels starting at GameInst, down to specfic gameplay and pawn interactions).
– Team management related tasks (resources, leading weekly scrums, problem resolutions).
